The Carducci Quartet is also committed to taking live music into schools. Tailored to meet individual needs, all workshops are interactive and promise to be exciting, creative and unique. Recently they have been giving recitals and workshops in schools in Ireland supported by West Cork Music and throughout the UK in collaboration with the
CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust.
A short sample of a primary school workshop:
Primary schools
A standard hour long workshop by the Carducci quartet promises to entertain both pupil and teacher alike. Each instrument is introduced in turn and the children take part in a variety of games and activities concentrating on developing their listening skills and their sense of rhythm and ensemble. They are asked for their
thoughts, reactions and questions throughout.
Secondary school
For secondary school children, the emphasis is on the exploration of different sound worlds and encouraging them to respond both emotionally and intellectually to what they hear. Seeing and interacting with real musicians helps to develop an appreciation of the power of music.
For G.C.S.E and A level students, there are various
options available. Composition students can work with
members of the quartet on understanding the different
capabilities of each instrument and the vast array of
colours and string techniques available. Workshop
performances of pieces such as Shostakovich String
Quartet No.8 and Joseph Haydn Op.76 No.2 & Op.33 No.2 are followed by an open
discussion. This provides the students with valuable insights
into the performance issues of a piece alongside it’s
historical, social and political context.
Other Workshops
"Are you listening?" - Suitable for key stages 1 & 2, this is a fun-packed musical feast, focusing on developing listening skills.
"Create your own" - Work alongside members of the Carducci Quartet to create an original composition.
